Walk in the Light: John 12:35 Daily Scripture Guide
“Jesus therefore said to them, "Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn't overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn't know where he is going.” John 12:35
There's something unsettling about walking in darkness. You move slowly, uncertain of each step, never quite sure what's ahead. But when light appears, everything changes. Suddenly the path is clear, and you move with confidence and purpose.
Jesus speaks to us today about this same reality—not physical darkness, but the kind we experience when we're living without His truth guiding us.
Reflection
Jesus tells His followers that the light—His presence, His truth, His guidance—is with them for "a little while." This isn't meant to frighten us, but to awaken us to the gift we have right now. He's not saying His light will vanish forever, but rather that we shouldn't take it for granted. The invitation is urgent and loving: walk while you have the light.
When we choose to walk in His light, we're choosing to live by His truth, His values, and His vision for our lives. We're saying yes to His guidance in our decisions, our relationships, our work, and our struggles. Walking in the light means staying close enough to see, trusting enough to follow, and humble enough to admit when we've strayed.
But notice the warning: those who walk in darkness don't know where they're going. They stumble. They get lost. They make choices based on confusion, fear, or their own limited understanding. When we disconnect from the light of Christ, we lose our bearings—not because God has abandoned us, but because we've chosen to navigate life without the one source of true direction.
The good news? The light is here. Right now. Today. And we're invited to walk in it.
Lord, thank You for the light of Your truth that guides my path. Help me to recognize how You're speaking to me today—through Scripture, through wisdom, through the still, small voice of Your Spirit. I don't want to stumble in darkness when Your light is so freely offered. Give me courage to follow where You lead, even when the way isn't fully clear. Amen.
Today, identify one area of your life where you're uncertain or struggling. Bring it to Jesus in prayer, asking Him to shed His light on it. Read Scripture that speaks to this situation, listen for His guidance, and take one small step forward based on what you discover. Trust that walking in His light, even slowly, is better than standing still in confusion.
