Teach Me Your Way: Finding Undivided Hearts | Psalm 86:11

“Teach me your way, LORD. I will walk in your truth. Make my heart undivided to fear your name.” Psalm 86:11

Have you ever felt pulled in multiple directions, unsure which way to go? The psalmist knew this feeling too. That's why his prayer in Psalm 86:11 isn't just about finding the right path—it's about becoming the kind of person who can stay on it.

Today's verse shows us that guidance isn't simply information we need. It's transformation we're invited into. God doesn't just point the way; He reshapes our hearts so we can walk it faithfully.

Reflection

When the psalmist asks, "Teach me your way, LORD," he's not asking for a map. He's asking for relationship. Teaching implies time together, patience, and growing understanding. It means being willing to learn not just facts, but a way of living—how to move through the world the way God moves through it, with wisdom, love, and purpose.

The second part of the verse takes us deeper: "I will walk in your truth." Notice the commitment here. Walking in truth isn't a one-time decision; it's a continual choice, one step after another. It means staying with what is real, what is good, what is right—even when other paths seem easier or more appealing.

But the heart of this prayer is the request for an undivided heart. An undivided heart is rare and powerful. It's not torn between competing loyalties or fragmented by doubt and fear. It's centered, whole, pointed toward one true north: honoring God's name. When our hearts are undivided, we're not constantly second-guessing ourselves or wondering if we should have chosen differently. We're free to move forward with confidence.

A prayer

Lord, I bring You my scattered heart today. Teach me Your way, the way that leads to real life and deep peace. Help me walk in Your truth, not in the confusion of the world around me. Make my heart whole and undivided, fixed on You alone. I want to honor Your name with my life. Show me how, step by step. Amen.

Live it today

Today, identify one area where your heart feels divided—torn between what God calls you to and what the world tempts you toward. Spend ten minutes in honest prayer about it, asking God to realign your heart toward His truth. Then take one small action that reflects that realignment.
