The LORD is Good to Those Who Wait - Lamentations 3:25
“The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” Lamentations 3:25
There's something about waiting that unsettles us. We live in a world built on speed—instant answers, quick fixes, immediate results. But the Bible speaks differently about waiting. It doesn't describe waiting as sitting passively by the sidelines. Instead, it's presented as an active, hopeful posture toward God.
The writer of Lamentations understood deep pain and loss, yet in the midst of grief, he discovered something profound: the goodness of God belongs to those who wait for Him, to those who earnestly seek Him. This isn't just comfort for hard times—it's an invitation to find hope in the waiting itself.
Reflection
When we wait for God, we're not waiting in the dark hoping something good might happen. We're waiting with the confident knowledge that His goodness is already at work. The soul that seeks Him isn't wandering aimlessly—it's moving toward the source of all comfort and strength. This distinction matters deeply. Waiting becomes purposeful when we understand we're waiting for Someone, not just for something.
The beauty of this verse is that it doesn't promise instant relief or immediate answers. Instead, it promises something deeper: God's character itself is good, and that goodness is accessible to us right now, in this moment of waiting. We can experience His presence, His peace, His nearness—not as a consolation prize for our patience, but as the actual substance of His goodness toward us.
In a world that demands we have it all figured out, waiting teaches us trust. It reminds us that we don't have to engineer our own solutions or manipulate circumstances to make things better. Our role is to seek, to wait, to remain oriented toward God. His role is to be good—and that's something we can absolutely count on.
Lord, help me release the need to rush through this season. Teach me that waiting on You isn't wasted time—it's where I encounter Your goodness most deeply. As I seek You today, calm my anxious heart and help me trust that You're working, even when I can't see it. Thank You for being good to me, now and always.
Today, identify one area where you're waiting—whether for an answer, a healing, a direction, or a change. Instead of filling that time with worry or distraction, spend five minutes simply telling God you're seeking Him. Notice what peace or clarity emerges even in the waiting.
