God Is My Salvation: Finding Strength in Trust | Isaiah 12:2
“Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD, the LORD, is my strength and song; and he has become my salvation."” Isaiah 12:2
Fear is one of the most honest emotions we feel. We fear loss, failure, rejection, and the unknown. But Isaiah's ancient words meet us in that honest place and offer something radical: a different way to live.
Today, we're exploring what it truly means to trust God so completely that fear loses its grip on our hearts.
Reflection
When Isaiah writes "Behold, God is my salvation," he's inviting us to really look—to stop and notice—that our rescue doesn't come from our own effort, our bank accounts, our plans, or our strength. It comes from God alone. This isn't weakness; it's clarity. The moment we stop pretending we're in control is the moment we can actually breathe.
Then comes the powerful statement: "I will trust, and will not be afraid." Notice that trust and fearlessness aren't separate promises. They're connected. We don't become fearless by denying our fears or by mustering up courage. We become fearless by placing our trust so firmly in God that fear simply has less room to grow. It's not that fear disappears instantly—it's that we've chosen something stronger to believe in.
The verse closes with a beautiful image: God becomes our strength and our song. A song is something we sing when we're delighted, when we're celebrating, when joy is so full it spills over into music. Isaiah is saying that trusting God doesn't just solve our problems—it transforms us. It makes us people who can sing even when circumstances are hard, because we know who holds our tomorrow.
Father, thank you that I don't have to figure everything out alone. Help me release my grip on the things I can't control and grip your hand instead. When fear rises, remind me that you are my strength and my salvation. Give me the courage today to trust you—not perfectly, but genuinely—and help me find my song in that trust. Amen.
Today, name one fear that's been weighing on you—something specific. Write it down if it helps. Then, deliberately speak these words aloud: "God is my salvation. I choose to trust." Return to this simple declaration whenever that fear resurfaces. Let it become your new default response.
