God Is Faithful: Called Into Fellowship | 1 Corinthians 1:9
“God is faithful, through whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:9
Have you ever wondered if your faith is strong enough? If you're holding on tight enough? Today's verse flips that worry upside down. It's not about how hard you're gripping—it's about how firmly God is holding you.
The word "faithful" might sound old-fashioned, but it means something beautiful: God keeps His promises. He shows up. He doesn't abandon ship when things get hard. And that's the foundation of everything we experience as believers.
Reflection
When Paul writes that God is faithful, he's not talking about a feeling or a hope. He's naming a core truth about who God is. Faithfulness is woven into God's character the way color is woven into cloth. It's not something He turns on and off depending on how we're doing. It simply is.
Notice what that faithfulness does: it calls us into fellowship with Jesus. Not just into belief, but into relationship. Into friendship. Into belonging to something real and lasting. When you're struggling to believe, remember—your faith doesn't have to be perfect. God's faithfulness is. His faithfulness is what holds the whole thing together, not the steadiness of your own heart.
This verse is an invitation to exhale. To stop white-knuckling your way through faith and instead rest in the reality that you've been called into something secure. Into Christ Himself. The God who called you is the same God who will complete that calling. That's not wishful thinking—that's the promise of a faithful God.
Father, thank You for being faithful when I'm not. Thank You for calling me into real fellowship with Jesus, not as some distant dream but as my actual life today. When I doubt, help me remember that Your faithfulness doesn't depend on my performance. Give me the courage to rest in that, and the joy to live from it. Amen.
Today, write down one area where you're struggling to trust God. Then write next to it: "God is faithful." Read it aloud. Let that truth sink in. You don't have to figure it all out—He's already proven Himself faithful, and He will continue to be.
