Your Father Gives Good Gifts | Matthew 7:11

Have you ever hesitated to ask God for something, wondering if it's okay to bring your request before Him? Jesus speaks directly to this doubt in Matthew 7:11, and His words are deeply reassuring. He invites us into a posture of bold, confident asking.

This isn't about demanding or manipulating. It's about understanding how much your heavenly Father loves you—and how eager He is to respond when you ask.

Reflection

Jesus makes a stunning comparison: even flawed, imperfect parents know how to give good gifts to their children. You show up for birthdays, you listen when your kids need help, you provide what they genuinely need. If that's true of us—people with limitations and selfishness—how much more true is it of God, who is perfect love and infinite resource?

The logic is breathtaking. Jesus isn't saying God is indifferent or distant. He's saying God is the *opposite* of reluctant. Your Father in heaven isn't waiting for you to prove yourself worthy before He opens His hand. He's waiting for you to ask, because asking is how relationship deepens. When you bring your needs to Him, you're acknowledging His care, His power, and His willingness to help.

Notice Jesus says "good things." Not everything you want, but everything that's genuinely good for you. A parent who gave a toddler unlimited candy wouldn't be loving—they'd be harmful. God's yes and His no both flow from His perfect knowledge of what will actually bless your life. And He promises that when you ask, you'll receive what's truly good.
