Draw Near With Boldness | Hebrews 4:16 Devotional
“Let's therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
Sometimes we hesitate to ask for what we need. We worry we're bothering God, or that we haven't earned His help. We approach prayer quietly, tentatively, almost apologetically. But Scripture tells a different story—one where you're invited to come boldly, openly, and confidently to the very throne where grace flows freely.
Today's verse reminds us that provision isn't something we have to beg for or hope arrives by accident. It's freely available to anyone willing to draw near with honest, bold faith.
Reflection
The phrase "throne of grace" is powerful. Not a throne of judgment where we cower in fear, but one of grace—unearned favor and compassionate help. God isn't sitting there waiting to punish you for coming with your needs. He's waiting for you to come so He can give you what you need. That's the nature of His throne. This is an open invitation to all who believe.
Boldness here doesn't mean arrogance or demand. It means confidence rooted in God's character and His promises. You can come as you are—tired, confused, struggling, afraid—because God already knows what you need and He cares deeply. When you draw near with that kind of honesty, you're acknowledging that you trust Him to provide what you cannot provide for yourself.
The promise is clear: when you approach His throne, you'll receive mercy for what you've done wrong and grace for what you need going forward. Mercy covers your past. Grace covers your present need. Both flow from the same source—a God who loves you and is completely committed to your welfare. In your moment of deepest need, this truth becomes your anchor.
Father, help me come to You with boldness and honesty about what I need today. Remove any shame or hesitation that keeps me from drawing near. Remind me that Your throne is a throne of grace, not judgment, and that You welcome me with open arms. Give me the faith to trust that You see my need and will provide exactly what I require. Thank You for inviting me to come close. Amen.
Today, identify one real need you've been hesitant to bring before God—financial, relational, spiritual, or physical. Write it down, then spend five minutes in honest prayer, approaching God's throne with the boldness He invites. Don't minimize your need or apologize for asking. Simply state it and trust His provision.
