Chosen and Called Near: Psalm 65:4 on Faith

“Blessed is the one whom you choose and cause to come near, that he may live in your courts. We will be filled with the goodness of your house, your holy temple.” Psalm 65:4

Have you ever felt the weight of wondering if you truly belong? Whether it's in a community, a family, or even in your own story—that ache for acceptance runs deep in all of us. Today's verse speaks directly to that longing, reminding us of something that's already true about those who follow Jesus.

Psalm 65:4 paints a picture of blessing that starts with a simple, profound reality: God chooses us. Not because we earned it, but because of His grace. And when He chooses us, He doesn't keep us at a distance—He brings us near.

Reflection

The word "blessed" here doesn't mean lucky. It means deeply happy, deeply satisfied—the kind of joy that comes from knowing you're exactly where you're meant to be. When God chooses someone and causes them to come near, He's inviting them into His courts, into His presence. This isn't a one-time event; it's an invitation into an ongoing relationship where you live in the reality of His nearness every single day.

What does it mean to "live in His courts"? It means making your home in His presence. It means building your life around closeness with God—through prayer, through Scripture, through worship, through the simple act of showing up and letting Him know you're there. When we do this, we're filled with His goodness. Not a little bit—we're filled. Overflowing. Satisfied at the deepest level.

This promise belongs to anyone who has been chosen by God through faith in Jesus. You don't have to wonder if you're on the outside looking in. If you've placed your trust in Him, you've been chosen. You've been brought near. And the goodness of God's house—His holy presence—is available to you right now, today, in whatever you're facing.

A prayer

Father, thank You for choosing me and drawing me near to Your presence. Help me believe this truth deeply—that I belong with You, that I'm welcomed in Your courts. Fill me with the awareness of Your goodness today, and teach me to live in the reality of Your nearness. Amen.

Live it today

This week, create one small ritual of drawing near to God's presence. It might be five minutes with Scripture each morning, a prayer walk, a moment of worship, or simply sitting quietly with Him. Let it be a physical reminder that you've been chosen and invited into His courts.
