Cast Your Worries on Him | 1 Peter 5:7 Devotional
“Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
Worry is heavy. It settles in your chest, pulls at your thoughts, and whispers that you need to figure everything out on your own. But what if you don't have to carry that weight anymore?
In 1 Peter 5:7, we find an invitation that changes everything: to cast all your worries on Him, because He cares for you. It's not a command wrapped in shame. It's a loving offer from someone who has the power to help.
Reflection
The word "cast" here means to throw or let fall—like releasing something you've been gripping tightly. We're not meant to manage our anxiety through willpower alone or pretend it doesn't exist. We're invited to actively place our concerns into God's hands. That action matters. It's real. It's honest.
Notice the reason given: "because he cares for you." This isn't transactional. God isn't asking you to give up your worries so He can criticize you for having them. He cares about you—deeply, personally, completely. The same God who knows the number of hairs on your head and counts the stars is invested in what troubles your heart.
When you cast your worries on Him, you're not denying reality or pretending problems don't exist. You're acknowledging that Someone greater than your circumstances is standing with you. You're saying yes to a different way of carrying life—not alone, but held.
God, I lay down what I've been carrying. These worries, these fears, these things I can't control—I'm choosing to trust them to You. Help me believe that You truly care about me and my situation. Give me peace as I learn to let go and let You lead. Thank You for inviting me to come as I am.
Today, name one specific worry you're carrying. Write it down or speak it aloud, then consciously hand it over to God. You might say: "I'm giving this to You, God. I trust that You care about this and about me." Return to this practice whenever worry returns.
